Phase one is known for its medium format cameras including those intended for aerial photography. Recently they unveiled their latest take on how to make aerial photography better. Under the brand Phase One Industrial, the company introduced Phase One iXU 180. The name seems to sound rather too technical but let’s see what underneath the shell.
To start with, the iXU 180 is touted as the world’s smallest aerial camera to pack 80MP sensor. The camera’s body is almost the same size as its lens. And while it features 80MP sensor and coupled with a good lens, it only weighs around 950 grams. The weight and the design are actually perfect for drone-mounting. For such, taking high resolution aerial shots can be made easier.
According to Dov Kalinski, the company’s General Manager, the Phase One iXU 180 “demonstrates our commitment to offering flexibility in the aerial photography market.” The iXU 180 was designed to be a “valuable standalone camera” that can cater to wider audience and users without the higher price tag associated with it.
To further drive sales, the camera lens was designed to be compatible with a wide array of Schneider-Kreuznach lenses that can fit 28 mm, 55 mm, 80 mm, 110 mm, 150 mm and 240 mm. Other important feature is the USB 3.0 support for its data transfer and a CompactFlash card slot. It comes with ISO range of 35 to 800. Although this product is not available in the market, Phase One Industrial said that it will start shipping by the middle of April of 2015.
